You must have Altiris Deployment Server 6.9 Service Pack 1 (it must be SP1) for support of Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008.

If you are using HP Rapid Deployment pack then this is version 3.82 not 3.80.

I originally tried installing 3.80 (Altiris 6.9) and it fails when connecting to the SQL server at installation.
